Separate characterization from release limits
Ask how molecular weight is measured or inferred, the units and the range reported. Clarify whether it is a typical grade descriptor, a periodic characterization or a routine batch requirement.
Keep viscosity separate unless the supplier explains its relationship to the molecular statement. Concentration, water, temperature, solution age and measurement arrangement are needed for a meaningful viscosity comparison.
Retain the other product dimensions
Identify ionic family, charge convention, architecture where relevant, active basis and commercial form. A molecular-weight descriptor does not define these other properties.
Request a focused sample set with an explanation of differences. Combining the highest charge and molecular figures from separate catalogues does not establish that a suitable or even comparable grade has been proposed.
Test preparation and distribution
Prepare stock according to the exact code's instructions and verify usable output, concentration and delivery. A viscous stock that cannot be distributed reliably may not improve separation.
Document injection point, dilution and the relevant transfer challenge. If a bench result is strong but the plant fails, investigate those conditions before purchasing an even larger nominal molecular profile.
Judge the required process endpoint
Use clarity and underflow for settling duties, or capture, cake and throughput for dewatering. Include dose response and repeated conditions rather than only a first visual floc.
The laboratory-to-plant record distinguishes an equipment or preparation limitation from a genuine need to change the grade. Keep negative results and excessive-dose behavior as diagnostic evidence.
A method-aligned quotation comparison
Place each supplier value beside the original method and conditions, then record which values are genuinely comparable. Keep product identity, prepared-solution usability and accepted plant performance as separate conclusions.
Send the method questions and process record through the high-molecular-weight PAM enquiry. Agree realistic limits for the qualified code rather than copying another supplier's unsupported numerical precision into a purchase order.
Method comparison evidence
| Checkpoint | Evidence to retain | Decision boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Molecular statement | Retain the supplier's original definition, method, units and reporting range without silently converting typical values into release limits. | Numerical similarity is not established equivalence when the measurement or inference methods differ. |
| Viscosity | Record concentration convention, water, temperature, solution age and measurement arrangement when interpreting a reported value. | A larger unexplained viscosity number does not independently establish longer useful chains or better treatment. |
| Plant result | Keep preparation capacity, distribution, transfer and accepted separator endpoint with the sample code. | A code that wins in gentle bench mixing still needs qualification through the actual production path. |
