Qualify the application before the purchase

Observe the suspension before selecting a charge profile. Particle composition, process-water chemistry, upstream coagulants and changing fines can alter the response. Increasing molecular weight or dose is not a substitute for a representative comparison.

Specify the proposed product code and supplied form. Request the technical sheet and handling instructions for that code, and confirm whether the sample is representative of the material proposed for commercial supply. A family name alone cannot define an acceptable shipment.

Measure the result that matters

Run settling comparisons at a consistent solids concentration. Observe both supernatant quality and settled-bed behavior; a fast interface does not prove that the underflow will pump or filter well. For a thickener, include the downstream constraint in the acceptance record.

Useful acceptance endpoints include: clarified water quality, settling behavior and underflow handling. Agree how each endpoint is measured and retain the untreated or current-product comparison. The application screening routes connect the product enquiry to the treatment duty.

Prepare the actual mineral slurry

Collect material across normal feed variation rather than selecting only the easiest sample. Record solids concentration and process-water reuse, since fresh-water dilution can change the test environment. If a coagulant is used, preserve its addition sequence during the comparison.

For a gravity thickener, follow interface movement at fixed times and inspect the supernatant. Then examine the settled bed: a candidate that produces fast settling but difficult underflow handling may not improve the overall circuit.

Confirm the downstream duty

For water reuse, include the quality requirement of the next operation in acceptance. For filtration, compare a defined filtration endpoint instead of assuming that the fastest-settling sample will also produce the most useful filter cake. Record any change in fines loss or liquid recovery.

Ask for an anionic sample set with a clear explanation of how candidates differ. Carry the winning code, test-water condition and preparation instructions into the quotation. Keep your measured consumption separate from a supplier suggestion made before testing.

Specify the delivery and receipt checks

Confirm the proposed form and the equipment needed to prepare it. For powder, discuss feeder consistency, wetting and hydration capacity at the required operating demand. If evaluating another form, reassess preparation and active-dose conversion rather than using a mass-for-mass replacement.

At receipt, compare the code and lot record with the approved sample specification. Retain the ore or slurry description with the acceptance data so a later change in mineral feed is not mistaken for a change in polymer quality.

Connect the sample approval record with grade documentation and delivery requirements before ordering.
